27 May 10:00-11:00

As the global demand for sustainable food and climate solutions grows, seaweed is increasingly recognized as a powerful and versatile marine resource. But unlocking its full potential requires one critical element: scalable technology.

Join us for an insightful webinar focused on technological solutions for upscaling seaweed cultivation, featuring expert speakers from Arctic Seaweed and SINTEF Ocean AS. Together, they will share the latest developments from Norway — a front-runner in the marine bioeconomy — and provide a forward-looking perspective on what’s next for the seaweed industry

We are excited to welcome two leading voices from the field:

Offshore Seaweed Cultivation as a Climate Mitigation Strategy

Johanne Tryggvason Hosen, Project Manager, SINTEF Ocean AS, Division: Fisheries and New Biomarine Industry

Johanne will present insights from the Seaweed Carbon Solutions project, led by SINTEF. This joint industry initiative explores how industrial-scale kelp cultivation, combined with biochar production, can serve as an ocean-based carbon dioxide removal (CDR) solution. Supported by the infrastructure of the Norwegian Seaweed Centre, the project investigates scalable, nature-based solutions for long-term climate impact and carbon sequestration through seaweed biomass. Enabling a Global Sustainable Seaweed Industry

Kim Kristensen, Founder and CEO, Arctic Seaweed AS

Seaweed is poised to play a critical role in the transition to a sustainable future — but scaling the industry is the key challenge. Kim Kristensen will share Arctic Seaweed’s journey, technology innovations, and their complete, end-to-end platform for large-scale seaweed farming. Learn how their systems are already making an impact in Norway, Greenland, and the UK — and how they envision global deployment of sustainable seaweed solutions. This webinar is organized as part of the project:

MULTI-USE FOR MORE SEAFOOD The project's goal is to increase knowledge about multi-use between different production methods at sea and strengthen the value chains of seafood production on land. The project will serve as a neutral collaboration platform where different perspectives meet, with the aim of facilitating new innovations along the seafood value chain. By strengthening networks and relationships and promoting dialogue across regional boundaries, the project aims to build capacity for sustainable food production at sea in coexistence with other activities.
